On Saturday 15th May, Wiscombe Park hosted the Torbay Motor Club hillclimb. There was only one Porsche competing......but it was a very special Porsche, with a special driver......Josh Sadler in a Porsche 911 RS entered in Class C3.
For those not aware of Josh, he founded Porsche specialists, Autofarm, in 1973. It quickly established its reputation as the UK's leading Porsche centre for restoration and tuning of Stuttgart's finest. Josh sold the business in 2015. Autofarm still continues, now run by its new owners.
Josh has been hill climbing for many years. I remember seeing him at Wiscombe in the early 80's when he was campaignong a guards red 911 RSR - it left a big impression on me! Not only a great engineer and businessman, he knows how to drive Porsche's very quickly - he is a former Midland Hillclimb Champion.
His visit to the South West produced a third in class with a 53.75s climb. The atrocious conditions meant that, although there were two practice run's in the morning, there was only one afternoon timed run, and the conditions got worse. First in Class went to Simon Pollock in a highly modified Toyota MR2 Mk2 with a 52.51s, and Martin Stubbington in a very quick VW Golf GTi Mk1, 53.04s - both Wiscombe regulars.
Hopefully we will see Josh back at Wiscombe in perfect conditions....I am sure he will be challenging for the Class win.
