Alois Ruf senior founded Auto RUF in January 1950 in Germany - a garage specialising in repairs. His son, Alois junior, built his first car in 1975 based on a Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.0 litre. In 1983, the first car to carry a RUF chassis number was unveiled - the BTR. This was powered by a 3.4 litre RUF turbo engine and RUF developed transmission. In 1987, the legendary CTR was launched, dubbed the "Yellow Bird". It could hit 213mph - quicker than the Porsche 959 and Ferrari F40 launched the same year. RUF has been recognised as a manufacturer since 1987. It sources body shells direct from Porsche and then builds cars to the owners requirements. Take a look at this video - Love at the red line - which celebrates 80 years of RUF www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSMEVQ25VBk
