Happy Birthday Sir Jackie Stewart OBE

Happy Birthday! to F1 legend, triple World Champion, Sir Jackie Stewart OBE - 82 years young today - 11th June 2021. Here in his '69 title winning Matra MS80/02 Cosworth @fosgoodwood 2017. Hope you are having a great day JYS!

F1 World Champion in '69, '71 and '73. From 99 starts, he achieved 27 wins, 43 podiums, 17 pole positions and 15 fastes laps - what a record!

The Matra MS80/02 was powered by the Ford Cosworth DFV 3.0 V8. Jackie started the '69 season in chassis 01 winning the South African GP. He then switched to chassis 02 which was used by ex motorcycle GP rider Jean-Pierre Beltoise. Jackie won the Spanish, Dutch, French, British and Italian GP's on his way to the title. Of the 10 races in chasis 02, he also had 3 retirements.

At the end of the '69 season, the car was dimantled and stored (badly) for many years, before being discovered in the 1990's and rebuilt. Jackie was re-united with the car after 40 years at the Goodwood FOS in 2009.

Jackie's '71 and '73 titles were at the wheel of Ken Tyrrell's cars who he joined in 1970. Apparently he never had a signed contract with "Uncle Ken" - a hand shake was enough between gentlemen.

I have been lucky to meet Jackie on a number of occasions and he is an absolute gentleman - always happy to chat and sign autographs.
